KNX Basic

The course aims to provide the basic knowledge required to install and commission systems using KNX technology.
The course is aimed at designers, installers, maintenance engineers and in general anyone wishing to approach the world of Home & Building automation based on the KNX world standard protocol. At the end of the KNX basic course, the student will have to take a theoretical and practical exam in order to verify the acquired knowledge.

Training details

The training course, aimed at obtaining the KNX Basic certification, is designed to introduce the fundamental principles of the global KNX BUS standard, covering its potential, installation, programming, and commissioning of systems.
This training will enable participants to acquire the necessary knowledge to seize new market opportunities in building automation.

Designers and installers of electrical and mechanical systems, both civil and industrial.

Day 1

  • Introductory notes on course execution
  • KNX System Topics
  • KNX Overview: Concept of Physical Address and Group Address
  • Communication: Group Address concept and communication objects
  • KNX Data Point Types
  • Familiarization/planning of actuators and sensors included in the training kit
  • Main features of ETS6 Professional
  • Planning and creating a project with ETS6
  • Database management: creation, export, and import of data
  • Configuration of the communication port (USB)
  • Diagnostics

Day 2

  • KNX TP1 Bus Devices: Bus buttons, output modules, dimmer actuators, shutter actuators, etc.
  • BCU: Types and general information
  • Installation notes for the KNX TP1 bus
  • System preparation
  • Types and characteristics of cables, maximum allowed lengths
  • Power supply methods for the KNX TP1 system
  • System verification
  • KNX topology: concept of Area, Line, Device
  • Lighting control (on/off, dimmer, shutters, parameter modification, etc.)
  • Modification management, project extension, telegram diagnosis, data point types

Day 3

  • KNX Telegram: Structure and analysis of the telegram
  • Line coupling
  • System Flags and Communication Object Flags
  • Coupling multiple lines (centralized control from a main line)
  • Centralized blocking functions
  • Practical exercises for exam preparation
  • Comprehensive review of theoretical concepts

Day 4 – KNX Partner Exam

  • Guidelines for test execution
  • Theoretical test
  • Practical test
  • Corrections and conclusions

DURATION

The KNX Basic Certified course consists of 32 hours over 4 days, concluding with a final test required to obtain certification.

Pass mark for both exams: >= 50%
